MicroCarNorth 2008 : MicroCarNorth is the annual get together of micro and mini car buffs at the home of Ralph and Wendy Hough in Coldwater, Ontario, Canada. It was my first micro car event (I drive a 1991 Nissan Figaro) and it was a blast to see so many unusual cars in the flesh. Just awesome! After gathering for a while at the grounds of the Hough's, we set out for Orillia on the shore of Lake Simcoe. An eventual thunderstorm dampened things a bit, but it was interesting to showcase our cars to the locals, and to see the Amphicar group. Next day we drove out to see the Big Chute Railway across the Trent Severn Waterway.

Micro cars and mini cars are an interesting lot and represent some aspects of motoring we may see in the future. I look forward to next year's event.

Prints can be bought for personal use here. (If you are a participant please contact me for images). If you would like images for editorial use, please contact me at mscott@millenniumwave.com.

Gould's MicroCar Event : I had been waiting all year to attend the 13th annual Gould's MicroCar Classic in Newton, Massachusetts (outside Boston). It certainly was no disappointment, an awesome event with all kinds of micro and mini cars from all over the world. We drove our 1991 Nissan Figaro down from Ottawa, Ontario overnight and met up with the gang Saturday, July 12. A beautiful collection of microcars filled the lawn and streets around Charles and Nancy's house. Quite the crowd! We paraded to the Larz Anderson Automotive Museum in Brookline, where many of the drivers drove members of the public around the grounds to give them a taste of a different kind of transportation. (Must be a first for a car show!) We had a great feast that night back at the Gould's, a fun ice cream run that night (a sight to see for the locals!), and back for the traditional Margareta's. We had to miss the Sunday drive to return to Ottawa, but did manage to drive through Boston (and the Big Dig!) and Salem on the way back. A great weekend, a great bunch of people, and a memorial event, can't wait to return. Thank you, Charles and Nancy and friends, what great people and great memories. You meet the nicest people in micro and mini cars!

Hope you enjoy the images. You can read about the event at Charle's website (http://www.bubbledrome.com), or more about microcars at the Vinage Microcar site (http://www.microcar.org/) or at the Bruce Weiner Museum site (http://www.microcarmuseum.com/). You can read my ideas on microcars and the future at http://worldwidefuture.wordpress.com, and please don't hesitate to leave comments or contact me at mscott@millenniumwave.com. I have seen the future and it is smaller!

Mike's Pike Factory Cars : In this gallery I will be uploading images from my collection of Pike Factory cars from Nissan. I am a big fan of these quirky cars developed by Nissan in the late 1980's, early 1990s. My first acquisition is the one of a kind retro 1991 Nissan Figaro, with design features from Italian sport cars of the 1950-1960s. Made only one year, 250,000 Japanese applied in a lottery to win the chance to buy one of 20,000 made. Mine was purchased from Chris Lewis of Kei-Cars now in Guelph, Ontario. My next most recent acquisition is the attention getter 1989 Nissan S-Cargo, designed from features of the Citroen 2CV. One of only 12,000 built, you can't help seeing this thing come down the road! I purchased this from Japanoid in Vancouver, BC. I am currently refurbishing this car and having a hard time to decide how to paint this vehicle! The S-Cargo will be outfitted with my portable studio equipment and is the official "Photowagon".

Woodward Dream Cruise 2008 : I just returned from the 14th annual Woodward Dream Cruise 2008 in Detroit Michigan. This is the largest celebration of car culture in the world, with two weeks of events leading to the 16 mile Saturday cruise down Woodward Ave. from Detroit to Pontiac Michigan. Over 1.4 million people lined the street to watch an estimated 30,000 cars go by and to take part in a wide variety of car culture events. This year we brought our 1991 Nissan Figaro, a Japanese import into the heart of the American Motor City! I was looking forward to doing the cruise for quite a while. While every city has its “Woodward Avenue” (for me, from Windsor Ontario, the Canadian Motor City, it was Tecumseh Road), this one is special since it occurs where American automobile history began and was made.
